Automations
Emails that go out on their own when someone joins a list or your app records something they did, such as a welcome series. This page is for administrators.
A new automation
Campaigns › Automations › New automation:
- When: what starts it, When someone joins one of your lists (from a sign-up form once they confirm, an import, your app or by hand), or When your app records an event, such as
trial_started. - From: the address it sends from, the name, and where replies go.
- Steps, one after the other: Send an email, written in the same editor as newsletters (Writing the email), and Wait, a number of hours or days. For example: Send "Welcome" → Wait 3 days → Send "Tips". Move up and Move down reorder them.

When someone joins a list: an email, a wait, another emailTurning it on
Turn on checks the sender and each email, as a newsletter's review does, and asks whether to Include people already on the list: off, only people who join from now on go through it. Turn off stops it; people in the middle wait where they are until you turn it on again.
Steps are changed while the automation is off.
Who goes through it
- Each contact goes through an automation once, however many times they join the list or the event is recorded.
- A contact leaves it when they unsubscribe, are blocked, leave the list or are removed, and when their data is erased.
- Only people who can be emailed receive its emails (What each state means).
The automation's page shows how many people are going through it, how many finished and how many left, and each email's results: sent, delivered, opened, clicked, bounced and unsubscribed.
Events from your app
Your app records an event for a contact with POST /api/v1/contacts/events (the contact's email and the event's name), or an agent with record_contact_event (REST API). Every automation that is on and starts with that event begins for the contact.
Important
An automation an app or an AI agent turns on waits 15 minutes, while every administrator is told and can cancel it (Marketing from your apps and agents).
